My Top 6 Favorite Spring Lippies

Don’t get me wrong, I love rocking a vampy lip in the colder months or a subtle nude lip year round. But there is something refreshing about putting on a baby pink or bright coral lip come springtime. I thought I would share my top 6 (5 just wouldn’t cut it for me) favorite lip products for Spring.

Lippies from left to right (no flash used) - Urban Decay Obsessed, NARS Roman Holiday, Revlon Rich Girl Red, BUXOM Sweet Thing, NYX Instanbul, and Rimmel Little Minx

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Obsessed ($22) - The shade is described as a bright baby pink and I find it to be quite opaque in it's coverage. This is a highly pigmented, creamy lipstick formula that is non-drying to my lips.

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Obsessed ($22) – The shade is described as a bright baby pink and I find it to be quite opaque in it’s coverage. This is a highly pigmented, creamy lipstick formula that is non-drying to my lips. An added bonus is this lipstick’s packaging is not only very durable but also beautiful.

NARS lipstick in Roman Holiday ($27) - This shade is described as a sheer, delicate pastel pink. I find this lipstick to be a beautiful shade of pink with a cool, almost purple undertone. This is my all time favorite lipstick. I love it. I find this lipstick to be very moisturizing (it contains Vitamin E). It can be worn sheer or is easily buildable to create a more intense lip look.

Revlon Super Lusterous Lipstick in Rich Girl Red ($5-$8 depending on where you purchase it) – This is a sheer brick red color with orange undertones. It provides a high shine finish and adds moisture to the lips (contains Vitamin E and avocado oil). This formula is easily buildable to create a more intense red lip.

BUXOM Full-Bodied Lip Gloss in Sweet Thing ($19) – This shade is described as hot pink. For me, this is definitely not the case. Sweet Thing is more a pinky coral on my lips. It is also advertised to have a non-tingle plumping effect. I have not noticed any plumping with this gloss, however, I love the formula. It is quite sheer with a subtle shimmer and is hydrating to the lips. It is also long-lasting for a lip gloss.

Perfect365_Share_1431027059555

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istanbul ($6) – This is a warm pink color with coral undertones. It is a very creamy formula that sets to a matte finish. I wouldn’t say it is moisturizing to my lips, but for a matte formula I don’t find it to be drying. This shade is easily adaptable by adding a pink or nude lip liner.

Perfect365_Share_1431026316389

Rimmel Provoalips 16 Hr Kissproof Lipstick in Little Minx ($6.99) – This shade is described as a medium bright fuchsia and I would say that is a very accurate description. This is a 2 step lip product, a stain on one end and a moisturizing top coat on the other. This is a VERY long-wearing product and is perfect for all day wear, since touch ups will be rare. My 2 complaints with this liquid lipstick are it’s yucky fragrance/taste of the top coat and it’s juvenile packaging (see previous post for more information on the Provocalips liquid lipsticks).

Ulta Super Shiny Lip Butter Review and Swatches

Facetune-20150412-1640372553

Ulta Super Shiny Lip Butters come in 10 shades ranging from neutral beige to bright berries. They are priced at $8.00 a piece. Colors shown: NY, London and LA (left to right)

Ulta brand products have always been hit and miss for me. I find their prices to be quite expensive for what you are getting. Plus, in my opinion the product packaging leaves a lot to be desired. With a price point comparable to Sephora’s namesake brand, I feel there is much improvement needed for the Ulta line to be on par with Sephora’s. However, a few weeks back they were having an awesome sale on Ulta products (on sale plus buy 2 get 2 free!), I decided to try my luck and order a few different Ulta lip products. FYI, when I was researching this post, I noticed that they are again having a sale on Ulta products buy 2 get 2 free :)

Super Shiny Lip Butters Swatched from left to right: LA, NY and London

But, I digress back to the review. Minus my everyday staple transition eye shadow in Sable, these Super Shiny Lip Butters are by far my favorite Ulta product that I have tried. I purchased 3 of them and wish I would have bought more. All 10 shades are named after different cities throughout the World. Although, the textures of each shade I purchased are different, I did not notice any difference in the creaminess or ease of application. These babies just glide onto the lips, leaving a beautiful, pigmented, high shine result, each and every time. I also find these to have an excellent staying power for a lip butter product. While on the lips, my lips felt soft and moisturized, but after the product wore off, I felt they left my lips quite dry (I normally don’t ever suffer from dry lips). Since I love these so much, I have just added a lip balm pre application to prevent the dryness factor from occurring.

Perfect365_Share_1428867736247

On lips: LA Ulta describes this shade as a sheer bright blue pink. I think it is a perfect everyday shade for spring and summer.

Perfect365_Share_1428868285883

On lips: NY Ulta describes this shade as a sheer berry. I find on me it is more of a sheer cool toned red. This color is easily buildable for a more intense look.

Perfect365_Share_1428794248484

On lips: London Ulta describes this as a berry with flecks of gold pearl. My absolute favorite (this should come as no surprise to anyone who knows me). I love this color! This shade is very buildable which makes it a perfect shade for day or night.

Pros:

  • Rich color pigmentation
  • Lasts much longer than other lip butters that I have tried
  • Unscented
  • Price when you buy them on sale

Cons:

  • Very cheap packaging
  • Not as moisturizing as I would have liked
  • Limited color selection compared to other makeup brands’ lip butter lines

Bottom Line:

I love these lip butters. If only they had added more moisture to my lips they would have been perfect. I would definitely purchase more colors from this line…but only if they were on sale. I find the $8.00 price to be a little steep since the packaging is so cheaply made.

Easy, Colorful Spring Makeup Look

res_1428177488183-1

Spring Makeup – Shimmery eyes with a pop of purple paired with rosy lips and cheeks.

I love Spring! From the weather, to the flowers (I’m a sucker for tulips), to the pastel color palette…I love it all! I thought I would share a spring look I created, using the pastel colors that I love. The inner eye color can easily be substituted out to more flatter your eye color e.g. green for brown eyes, bronze/copper for blue eyes. The step by step instructions on how I achieved my eye makeup are listed below. Happy Spring!

Step One:

res_1428183749418-1

I started my eyes off by priming them with a color neutralizing eye primer. Then I applied a white eye shadow pencil to my upper eyelid, inner eye area and lower waterline.

res_1428184031928-2

I blended out the eye pencil with my finger, making sure to pay extra attention to my inner eye area.

Step Two:

res_1428183127544-1

I applied a shimmery light champagne color over the white pencil on my upper eyelids, to add depth to the look, I added a cool toned light brown eye shadow, right above my crease and to my lower lash line.

res_1428183442478-1

After blending out the cool toned brown transition shade, I applied a sparkly white shadow to the center of each eyelid (I applied it with a damp brush to intensify the eye shadow’s shine and intensity) and lightly blended it outwards.

Step Three:

res_1428182366385-1

To keep the look light,I tight lined my upper lash line with a shimmery dark gray eye pencil rather than my usual black and lined my waterline with a shimmery light lilac eye pencil (over the white pencil).

res_1428182756749-1

Next, I lined my upper lash line with a blue-based purple eye pencil. I kept the line very thin, since I only wanted to use the liner to add definition to my lash line.

Step Four:

res_1428178201551-1

For a bright pop of spring color, I applied a shimmery, glittery lavender shadow to my inner eye area (I used a wet pencil brush to apply the color in order to get the exact placement of shadow that I wanted). To make sure the color was as intense as I wanted, I applied the shadow in a couple of layers.

res_1428177870825-1

Next, I applied a matte, pink-undertoned, white eye shadow to my brow bone. I made sure to blend this color into my transition shade to keep the look from looking choppy. To finish the eyes, I added two coats of mascara of black mascara to my upper lashes. I used a sparkly, purple mascara on my lower lashes.

Facetune-20150404-2010809762

To complete the spring theme of the look, I highlighted my cheekbones, the bridge and tip of my nose and cupid’s bow, I then applied a cool pink lip butter on my cheeks and lips for an extra dewy effect.

Essence Lipsticks – Bargain or Bust?

essence lipsticks: 07 Natural Beauty, 11 Nude Love and 12 Sparkling Miracle (left to right)

essence lipsticks: 07 Natural Beauty, 12 Sparkling Miracle, and  Nude Love  (left to right)

Let’s be real, when you see a lipstick with a $2.99 price tag (full price – not on sale) you might think to yourself, “that lipstick is probably total crap, I don’t want to put that anywhere near my lips.” Well, the lipsticks by essence will quickly have you changing your tune.

Swatches: 12 Sparkling Miracle (top), 07 Natural Beauty, (middle) 11 Nude Love (bottom)

Swatches: 12 Sparkling Miracle (top), 07 Natural Beauty (middle), 11 Nude Love (bottom)

Initially, I only bought one lipstick (again, at the time, I didn’t want to waste my money on crap). It was 12 Sparkling Miracle (could have given it a better name), a beautiful shimmery magenta-ish purple. Needless to say, from the first swipe, I was pleasantly surprised and very pleased with this product. I later ended up purchasing two more colors from essence’s Longlasting line of lipsticks: 07 Natural Beauty, a pink your lips but better shade and 11 Nude Love, a beautiful pale peach toned nude. All the lipsticks are creamy, well pigmented, non-drying, and last for a good length of time. I would compare their formula to my NARS lipsticks, which I also love.

11 Nude Love

11 Nude Love – No lip liner used, you can easily apply one for more lip definition and added depth.

07 Natural Beauty

07 Natural Beauty – No lip liner used.

12 Sparkling Miracle

12 Sparkling Miracle – No lip liner used. I applied a more sheer application here, can easily build color to be more intense.

Pros:

  • Price
  • Smooth and even application
  • Creamy texture
  • Shimmer formula is non-gritty in texture
  • Staying Power
  • Longlasting formula isn’t drying

Cons:

  • essence brand only available at Ulta or Ulta.com
  • Unlike other drugstore lipstick lines, color selection is sparse

Bottom Line:

I love, love, love these lipsticks and could not recommend them more. The Nude Love shade is quickly becoming my most used nude lipstick. These are a definite must in your makeup collection. In the future, I will definitely be picking up some more colors.

Night Out St.Patrick’s Day Makeup Look

I wanted to create a fun, green smokey eye makeup look anyone could rock for St.Patrick’s Day (or, really any time). Below, are the steps I took to achieve this smokey eye.

Perfect365_Share_1426378801158

Green smokey eye with neutral blush and nude lips.

Step One:

First, I applied my eye primer, from upper lash line to eyebrow and along my lower lash line. Next, I added a warm light brown shade above my crease and blended to create a transition shade between the vivid green eyeshadows and the much lighter brow highlight, I was going to be using.

First, I applied my eye primer, from upper lash line to eyebrow and along my lower lash line.  For an eyeshadow base, I added a white eye pencil (using a white base will make my eyeshadow colors pop) to my upper mobile lid, inner corner of my eye and lower lashline. I then blended this out with my finger. Next, I added a warm light brown shade above my crease and blended to create a transition shade between the vivid green eyeshadows and the much lighter brow highlight, I was going to be using.

I added a light green shimmery green eyeshadow all over my upper eyelid to just above the crease and all along my lower lash line. i blened the green into the warm brown eyeshadow so there would be no harsh lines between the two colors.

I added a light green shimmery green eyeshadow all over my upper eyelid to just above the crease and all along my lower lash line. I blended the green into the warm brown eyeshadow so there would be no harsh lines between the two colors.  I also filled my eyebrows in with a warm, medium brown eye pencil. Please excuse the color variance in these first step photos, I forgot to turn on my flash :(

Step Two:

res_1426362371325-1

To create some depth to the look, I added a shimmery mid-tone green to my outer V and outer third of my lower lash line.

res_1426362104863-1

I then blended the shadow into my crease (roughly halfway in). I also blended the shadow along my lower lashline.

Step Three:

res_1426363660293-1

To add more vibrancy to the look, I added a shimmery bright green to the center of my lid.

res_1426365704494-1

I then added a deep, dark green to the very outer corner of the upper eyelid and blended lightly, as to not spread the color too far. I did not add this color to my lower lashline.

Step Four:

res_1426374403844-1

I applied a black liquid liner to my upper lashline, making the line thicker on the outer edge. Next, I added a shimmery, metallic teal shimmery eye pencil to my lower waterline.

res_1426378463153-1

I then added a combination of very light toned eyeshadows to my inner eye and brow bone for a nice highlight.

Step Five:

res_1426360743508-1

I finished up with adding lots of mascara to my upper lashes…i forgot to add mascara to my lower lashes…woops. But, if I was recreating this look, I would definitely add it. As a final step to my eyebrows, I shaped them using a medium brown eyebrow pomade and followed with an eyebrow gel.

res_1426360468302-1

For an added playful feel, I added gold glitter to my inner eye area.

Final Look:

res_1426379081744

To keep my eyes as the main focus of this look, I added a mixture of matte blushes in a cool, dusty pink shade and a terracotta shade. I added a warm, champagne highlight to my upper cheekbones, above the apples of my cheeks and alonf the bridge of my nose and above my cupid’s bow. I then lined my lips with a nude lip liner and topped it off with a matte nude lipstick.

Rimmel Provocalips 16 Hour Kiss Proof Lip Colour Review

Rimmel Provocalips in 110 Dare to Pink (top) and 310 Little Minx (bottom)

Rimmel Provocalips in 110 Dare to Pink (top) and 310 Little Minx (bottom)

With the recent rise in popularity of long-wearing liquid lipsticks, many drugstore brands are jumping on board with their versions. The formula I was most interested in trying were these, the Provocalips by Rimmel London. Unlike the Anastasia liquid lipsticks, I reviewed previously, these are a two step formula. First, apply the highly pigmented lip colour and let it set up on the lips, then follow up with a clear “Lock & Shine” gloss. The Provocalips line comes in 10 shades ranging from a lighter neutrals (Skinny Dipping, Pucker Up) to gorgeous reds (Kiss Me You Fool, Heart Breaker).

Provocalips have a double sided wand. One side supplies the color, while the other locks the color in and adds hydration and shine.

Provocalips have a double sided wand. One side supplies the color, while the other locks the color in and adds hydration and shine.

One immediate problem I faced, when wanting to purchase this product, was finding it in stores. It was nearly impossible. If I did locate a display, the colors had entirely been picked over and the only one or two tubes that remained had already been opened. I decided to take a gamble and order my colors, sight unseen, online at Ulta. I chose Dare to Pink, which I thought would be a cool toned, icy pink and Little Minx a bright fuschia with blue undertones. The Little Minx ended up being spot on what I hoped it would be, unfortunately, while pretty, the Dare to Pink ended up being more of a warm peachy pink shade (very similar on the lips to Anastasia Pure Hollywood).

Swatches of Dare to Pink (left) and Little Minx (right)

Swatches of Dare to Pink (left) and Little Minx (right)

Both lip colors last an extremely long time, although, I think the 16 hour claim is a bit of a stretch. I am able to eat and drink and have the Lip Colour stay amazingly in place (while wearing Little Minx, I did notice a little wear in my very inner lip area after eating some pizza). After applying Step 1 (Intense Colour) of the product my lips felt tight and somewhat dry, this feeling does go away after applying Step 2 (Lock & Shine), the Step 2 needed to be reapplied throughout the day to keep the tight feeling from resurfacing. The fragrance in this product is quite bothersome to me, especially the Lock and Shine, it has a cloying bathroom cleaner mixed with floral scent that seeps into your mouth when wearing it. I definitely would not recommend eating soon after applying this step.

Dare to Pink

Dare to Pink – A perfect every day nude lip color.

The doe foot applicator makes for easy application and disperses just the right amount of product. When wearing the darker shades (see below), the applicator can be turned on it’s side to line the lips with product.

Little Minx - The perfect bright fuschia for spring and summer.

Little Minx – The perfect bright fuschia for spring and summer (this color is much more vibrant in person).

Pros:

  • Very long lasting lip product.
  • If you don’t like a matte lip look, gloss provides a beautiful satin finish.
  • 10 shades to choose from, with a wide variety of colors.
  • Affordable at only $7.99 each.

Cons:

  • Lock & Shine’s yucky smell and taste.
  • Requires a 2 step application process.
  • Some might consider product too long lasting.
  • Hard to remove from lips (especially Little Minx), must use oil based makeup remover and scrub a lot.
  • Very hard to find in stores.

Bottom Line:

If you can get past the Step 2 fragrance, I think these are an excellent product and would definitely recommend them. In the near future, I plan on picking up one of the red shades to add to my collection. Hopefully, by then, they will be more easily accessible in stores. Happy Kissing XX

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick Review, Swatches and Photos

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks in their beautiful packaging.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks in their beautiful packaging.

Let’s just say I wanted these all over my lips, from the minute I was introduced to them on Anastasia’s Instagram feed. All 20 shades are beautiful, and range from pale nudes (Milkshake, Pure Hollywood) to full-on vamp (Sad Girl, Potion) But, at $20 a pop, I knew I would have to limit myself to only two. I immediately knew one of those colors would be Pure Hollywood (luckily I was able to snag it before it was on back order)…the other shade I debated on, but finally decided on Sad Girl, since lately I have been loving rocking a dark lip.

The fine tip of the wand helps make for easy application and even disbursement of product.

The fine tip of the wand helps make for easy application and even disbursement of product.

These are touted as having a full coverage matte color, being highly pigmented, long wearing and easy to apply. I would say for the most part all these claims are true. More so, in my case, with the Pure Hollywood shade. It lasted me through an entire work day, which is saying a lot because I drink a ton of tea and water throughout the day (it did transfer a bit onto the rim of my cup). Sad Girl lasts an extremely long time too, however, I found out the hard way that if you eat any sort of greasy food, this lipstick will smear like no other (nothing sexier than having dark red lipstick smeared all over your chin :( ) For a long wearing lipstick, these are extremely comfortable on the lips and I haven’t noticed them drying my lips out in the slightest (even after wearing Pure Hollywood for three days in a row).

Facetune-201502161037788314

On Left: Pure Hollywood On Right: Sad Girl

Another thing I love about these lipsticks is you don’t need to use a lip liner. It is very easy to line you lips using the sponge tip applicator because of it’s sleek design. However, an added bonus that I have found with Pure Hollywood, is that it is easily transformed by using a lip liner. If I want a more pinky nude, I fill my entire lip in with a pink lip liner (I have been using Ulta Contour Lip Liner in Rose) and for a peachy nude I have been filling in my lip with a nude lip liner with peach undertones (I have been using NYX retractable lip liner in Nude).

Me wearing Pure Hollywood (I have no lip liner on).

Me wearing Pure Hollywood (I have no lip liner on).

Me "vamping" it up in Sad Girl (again, I am not wearing lip liner).

Me “vamping” it up in Sad Girl (again, I am not wearing lip liner).

Pros:

  • Does not transfer to your teeth (I have never found a dark lip product that does not do this).
  • Long-wearing and non-drying formula.
  • One step application, unlike other long-wearing formulas.
  • Beautiful packaging, makes you feel posh when you use it.
  • No weird scents.
  • Excellent color selection.

Cons:

  • Must be careful while eating.
  • Not exactly inexpensive, but for the quality, the price seems reasonable.
  • Only available at AnastasiaBeverlyHills.com and Macy’s

Bottom Line:

I would definitely recommend trying out this line of liquid lipsticks. There is a color for everyone! I plan on picking up more in the future. Also, an added bonus, if you sign up for Anastasia’s newsletter you get 10% off your first order and there is free shipping once you spend $30.

Valentine’s Day Look #1 – Smokey Eye with Pink Lip

Facetune-20150209-1186645139

The first Valentine’s Day look I wanted to share with you, is this brown smokey eye, paired with a rosy cheek and pink glossy lip. Here are the step by step instructions I used, to achieve my smokey eyes:

Step One:

20150207934973770-1

First, I primed my eyelids and lower lash line with an eye primer. I also added a champagne cream shadow pencil to my eye lids as an eye shadow base, to help my eye shadow last longer.

I also added a matte neutral brown eyeshadow to the crease and blended upward, to create a nice transition for all my eye shadows.

Step Two:

Next, I added a shimmery, light brown eye shadow to my entire eyelids and lower lash lines.

Next, I added a shimmery, light brown eye shadow from my lash line to my crease and lower lash line.

20150207-1775415903-1

I made sure to blend this color with the transition color, I had placed in my crease.

Step Three:

Then, I followed with a medium brown shimmery eye shadow which I placed in my outer V of my eye and blended it out, bringing some of the color into the crease.

I also brought this medium brown eye shadow along the outer half of my lower lash line. I made sure to blend so there would be a smooth transition from one color to the next

Step Four:

To add even more definition to my eyes, I added a satin finish, very dark brown eye shadow to the very outer corner of my eye in a small diamond shape. Then, I tightlined my upper and lower waterline. I also added a matte black shadow over the liner in my water line to add depth and longevity.

I also lined my upper lash line with a smudgeable black eyeliner and smoked it out with some matter black eye shadow (same shadow I used in my waterline), I then added a shimmery cream color eye shadow to my inner eye area to open up my eyes.

Step Five:

Add lots and lots of mascara to top and bottom lashes.

To finish my look I added a shimmery rosy pink blush to my cheeks. I highlighted my cheekbones with a champagne gold highlighter. Lined and filled in my lips with a pink lip liner, added a cool toned pink lipstick and added a creamy pink gloss to the center of my lips.

Super Bowl XLIX Makeup Looks

Whether you are a Patriots or Seahawks fan (or just a fan of makeup, like myself), I thought it would be fun to show how you can get creative with your makeup, and create an eye look to support your team. I used the same application method on both eyes, substituting correct team colors for each eye.

My 5 Favorite Inexpensive Nude Lip Liners

Lip Liners, Top to Bottom: Jordana Easyliner for Lips in Tawny, Ulta Contour Lip Liner in Rose, Jordana Easyliner for Lips in Rock N’ Rose, NYX Retractable Lip Liner in Nude, and Boots No7 Line and Define Lip Pencil in Nude

With a rise in the popularity of lip liners, I thought I would share my top 5 favorite nude lip liners from the drugstore. While the true definition of the color nude is quite subjective, I have included both pinky nudes and peachy nudes, since I love both. My favorite of the bunch is Jordana’s Rock N’ Rose, it is a nude, dusty pink in a very creamy, but long lasting formula. For an easy, yet put together look, I love priming my lips with ChapStick and filling my entire lips in with Rock N’ Rose. It also looks lovely under a multitude of nude lipsticks. I have 3 back ups of this liner because I never want to run out, and at only $2.79, buying in multiples won’t break the bank. Jordana is available at Walgreens, Kmart and www.jordanacosmetics.com

A close second, is the Boots No7 Line and Define Lip Pencil in Nude. This color, created by one of my favorite makeup artists Lisa Eldridge (so, I might be just a bit biased, but she knows her stuff), is a very natural looking peachy nude, a definite your lips but better color. Although, not as creamy as the Jordana, it still applies with ease and has decent staying power. I prefer to wear this color under lipstick or gloss, not on its own. It is the most expensive of my choices at $6.99 and is only available at Target.

Boots No7 Nude

Boots No7 Nude

Very similar in color and texture to Boots No7 Nude is the NYX Nude retractable lip liner ($4.49). On my lips it pulls a tad more pink than the Boots. The packaging states this lip liner is waterproof, I do not find that to be true, however, it’s staying power is on par with the Jordana. NYX is available at Target, Ulta, CVS, and www.nyxcosmetics.com

Although,  Ulta’s Contour Lip Liner in Rose is the driest and most difficult of my favorites to apply, it’s beautiful color payoff makes it worth it. The pink hue makes my lips appear fuller and the drier consistency makes for a very long wearing formula. When wearing this liner, I always prep my lips with a balm of some kind to counteract its dryness and help with smoother application. This pencil is not retractable, so it needs sharpening. Some people may view this as a negative, however, I think this makes for a more precise application. I purchased this pencil on sale for $3.79 (originally $7.00) at Ulta.

Ulta Rose

Ulta Rose

Jordana’s Tawny lip liner is a bit deeper in color than all my other choices, and the brownest nude of the bunch. I love wearing this color alone on my lips with a warm-toned smokey eye. Like the Rock N’ Rose, this liner is creamy in consistency and very long wearing. The Jordana Easyliner is by far my favorite drugstore lip liner formulation, excellent value for money.
