NYX Prismatic Shadows – Shown from left to right: PS 04 Girl Talk, PS 09 Fireball, PS 02 Punk Heart, and PS 06 Smoke & Mirrors

I am like a magpie of the makeup world, I love anything shiny and sparkly. Enter NYX Prismatic Shadows.  This new line of eye shadow comes in 12 shades, ranging from light silver to a deep aubergine and are priced at $6.00 a pot. They are advertised as an eye shadow that possesses extra sparkle and dimension with a fully pigmented metallic texture.

I purchased four colors from the range. In the pots they appeared sparkly and beautiful (minus Punk Heart which arrived broken to pieces…grrrr). However, I have to say when I swatched them, they weren’t near as shimmery/sparkly as I had thought or wanted them to be, especially the colors Girl Talk and Punk Heart.

Also, I found the consistency to change from shade to shade. Fireball was extremely buttery and pigmented, it’s formula is by far my favorite of the four I picked up. While Girl Talk and Smoke & Mirrors formula is quite dusty and dry. The pigment of Girl Talk was also a let down, it is very sheer and took a lot of layers to get the shade as it appeared in the pot (that is why my swatch of this shade is so much larger, it took several applications to get it to show up), I would definitely suggest using this shade with a damp brush (as I did in my look) to get the best results from this shade.

For this eye look, I applied Girl Talk from my lash lash to crease (I later went in and reapplied this shadow with a damp brush, since using it dry, I wasn’t achieving the desired intensity and shimmer that I had wanted) and all along my lower lash line. Next, I applied Punk Heart to the outer V of my eye and blended into the crease. For added definition and to keep the eye liner in my water line from moving, I used a flat liner brush to place Punk Heart all along my lower lash line. To add more depth to the look I applied Smoke and Mirrors with a small eye detailer brush to the very outer corner of my upper eyelid and the outer third of lower lash line.

I didn’t want a total shimmery eye look, so I applied a matte mauve eye shadow above my crease and blended well. For my brow bone highlight, I added a matte white eye shadow with pink undertones. To highlight and open up my eyes, I applied a shimmery champagne eye shadow to the inner corner of my eyes. To add more definition to my eye, I applied a black gel liner to my upper lash line and smudged it out using the Smoke & Mirrors shade.

Pros:

  • Super cute packaging
  • Price
  • Staying Power

Cons:

  • Inconsistent formulation of shadows
  • Differing pigment from shade to shade
  • NYX line not widely available in stores
  • Only 12 shades in line
  • Fallout from shadows

Bottom Line:

I find these shadows to be okay. Maybe I have been spoiled by my Colour Pop eye shadows with their awesome pigmentation, super creamy formulation and no fallout. All in all, I am happy with the colors I have purchased, but I don’t see myself purchasing any more shadows from this line, they are way to hit and miss.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara Review

Facetune-2015020797284685

Where do I begin about my obsession for mascara… Let’s just say I have been on a quest for my perfect mascara for YEARS! I have tried everything from the super inexpensive $2.99 Jordana Best Lash Extreme, (which everyone raves about, I however, found nothing special about it) to the very pricey $32.00 Givenchy Noir Couture 4 in 1 Mascara, (impressive, but not $32.00 impressive). Enter Perversion mascara from Urban Decay. In case you haven’t noticed, or don’t know, Urban Decay is my favorite brand of makeup. However, I have never been a fan of any of their mascaras, that I have tried. But with the tag line, “BIGGER, BLACKER, BADDER”, I knew I had to give this mascara a try.

Luckily, I was able to score a free mini sample with one of my Sephora purchases, so if it sucked, I wouldn’t be throwing away $22.00 (the price for the 0.4 oz tube). Fortunately, it didn’t suck. This mascara is awesome! It is by far the closest thing I have found to my “perfect” mascara. Not only does it lengthen my lashes beautifully, it adds the needed volume that I crave. Previously, for me, the only way I have been able to create this effect is the layering of 2 if not 3 different mascaras. I have also received the best mascara compliment ever, while wearing this mascara: “Are you wearing false lashes?” Nope, I owe these fluttery babies to my Urban Decay Perversion mascara.

Pros:

  • Lengthens and Thickens lashes
  • Buildable formula with minimal clumping, even when using multiple coats.
  • Lashes are very dark, a true black mascara due to use of triple-black pigments.
  • ¬†Curls lashes without having to use a lash curler.
  • Mascara is easy to remove.
  • No loss of lashes, Urban Decay also says some of the ingredients are known to stimulate lash growth and add nourishment to the hair follicles.

Cons:

  • Does on the rare occasion smudge on my brow bone (most likely due to my gross oily skin).

Bottom Line:

I highly, highly, highly recommend this mascara! It is bigger, blacker, badder :)
